10:32 am - What Dreams May Come...
Usually in the morning I like to wake up and go back to sleep a few times. This morning, that didn't work so well.

I'm awake now. I don't want any more sleep now, no, no, no, thank you very much.

Why can't I ever remember my nice dreams?

* I don't remember the actual street names in the dream, so I just made these up.

I've updated my Ambigrams page with the new ambigram I created for the_gwenzilliad and filceolaire on the occasion of their wedding.

(A printed and colored version of this was sent to Dixseption with autographedcat.)

2:57 pm - Meme: Four songs, and how my brain works
Meme from lordandrei:
"Write down the names of the first four songs that come to mind."

Actually, this is just part of another meme that asks you to do a bunch of things with people's names. I'm not interested in that part of it. However...

Choosing the first four songs that came to mind proved to be an interesting experience.Collapse )

Conclusion: the subconscious is a fascinating place, and my brain's filing system is not managed well.

If anyone else does this meme, please detail your experiences as well.

11:49 pm - More Airplay! and, some generalized updates.
Just got the great news that another of my songs was played on Dr. Demento this past weekend -- the Star Trek Next Generation Episode Guide. I'm pretty stoked about this, because I think that's a song that will pique people's interest and make them want to hear it again -- it's one of my songs that has garnered the largest number of downloads from electronic services.

It's been a while since I've posted anything about current events in my life, so I guess I should update things a bit:

2:57 pm - A Silly LiveJournal Game I Made Up: LJ Whacking
How to play:

Come up with some possible LiveJournal handles. They can be as outrageous as you like. In fact, the more unlikely they are, the more fun it is. (I did find, to my disappointment, that most of my most outrageous picks really didn't exist...)
Check to see if journals under those names really exist.
If they do exist, and there are at least a few posts, make note of the handles.
Repeat until you have a list of ten.

Here's my list.Collapse )

[Thanks to hitchhiker for suggesting the name for this game that I had been trying to think of]

4:08 pm - Rather Damp Today
So, I may not have mentioned that it hasn't been raining a lot here. It's been what I would call an unusually dry winter, in a lot of ways -- we've had drizzle and occasional showers, but it just hasn't felt like the constant rain that I typically associate with a Willamette Valley winter. Thus, the arrival of the rain last night was comforting in a way. I lay in bed and listened to it with the kind of satisfaction you get when you call the Oscar nominations correctly; I knew it was time for it to rain. I love the sound of the rain on the roof, too, so it sent me off to sleep pretty readily.

I'm not sure how hard it actually rained during the night, as I was asleep, but it must have been considerable. The ground outside was soggy and the gutters were running with rivulets when I left to go to work, and in one or two places near the river, which was looking pretty high, there were standing puddles on the freeway. It was still pelting down when I got to the office. I had a lot to do today, so I didn't make it outside until around three, when the fire alarm went off. As I was filing outside with everyone else, I noticed that the carpet was damp.

The remainder of my boring day.Collapse )

1:08 pm - Quiz About Me: The answers (including Stories!)
A couple of weeks ago I posted a quiz about myself, containing ten true statements and five false ones. With the exception of lordandrei, who somehow managed to score 100% correct on his very first guess, most people attempting the quiz found it tricky. Well, there were a few tricky questions that bore very close readings, and a couple of near-truths. So sue me.

Here be the answers, with storiesCollapse )

10:51 am - A Curiosity
If there is at least one person in your life whom you consider a close friend, and whom you would not have met without the Internet, post this sentence in your journal.

[Editorial commentary: almost everyone I know that I consider a close friend, I met indirectly "because of the Internet". The indirection sometimes has several layers. For example, I got into filk because I discovered it through the Internet; through filk I have met many people. It's highly likely that, had the Internet not existed, I would have found filk much later or not at all. In the same way, my co-workers who are friends know me largely because of the Internet for several reasons, including that much of the reason for my company's existence involves the Internet. However...I don't have any close friends whom I have met on the internet, although there is one borderline case. The real world is still, apparently, an important part of the universe.]

Oh, well. I wonder what she meant by "hippocrypts"?]

12:27 am - How You Could Have Known It Wasn't My Post
Some members of my Friends List were fooled recently by a post that slantiness made on my LiveJournal by exploiting an open terminal. Just in case someone might be interested, here are some telltale clues about that post that might have tipped one off that it was bogus. Some of them are intrinsic; some of them are things about me that aren't correctly represented in the post.
